Better Atmosphere

Please read and sign the "Standard Terms and Conditions of Intensive Care" before reading the following. The atmosphere is Kay's room is noticeably more relaxed this morning, more smiles on faces, more time to chat. Her blood pressure is good, high even. This in spite of the fact that both her bp meds and her fluid levels are being reduced. The infection indicator in her blood is down from 300 to 100 or so. Her red cell count is holding around 5.1, a small drop from yesterday's 5.3. What is amazing is that her white cell count is UP to 1.4. Today's lung xray looks a little better. Conclusion: the thread is under slightly less tension.

  3. Allow yourself an 'ouf' moment, without guilt. We understand that this is not the turning of the corner, just a little pause.

I can imagine that in your situation, a little pause is like a glass of champagne being offered at the refreshment station during a marathon.

"Buvez avec modération" say the adverts in France for alcholic drinks: drink with moderation. In Belgium they are much more cryptic and a little hypocritical: on posters for beer they include the marvelous "Une bière brassée avec savoir se déguste avec sagesse". Is that really a health warning? It means "A beer brewed with expertise, deserves to be drunk wisely".

    Love,

  4. James! You are certainly on form today.
Love the analogy of the champagne at the refreshment station. Very apt.
Take care all - we're all still running the marathon with you!

  8. Following your blog hour after hour. Thank you by the way for giving us all these updates. It is reassuring to know what is happening, all the more when things are improving!! Kay is a tough cookie indeed and what a nice idea to put that beautiful picture of her on the wall. I bet it brings a smile on many faces. I liked the fact that you could meet this boy who went through similar circumstances, it must have been comforting to see there IS a way out of this. The comfort that I personally have in this new situation is that I feel that Kay suffers less (mentally at least). This may sound weird to say, but at least she is not being sick 20 times a day, which is some sort of a relief even though her body is obviously supercharged.
We pray for the good trend to stay steady.
    Lots of love.
